Well-Being Group
Wellbeing Group. “Seedlings”
‘Inclusion is a sense of belonging: feeling respected, valued for who you are; feeling a level of supported energy and commitment from others so that you can do your best work.’
(Miller and Katz 2002).
Wheatfields Infants’ and Nursery School is committed to providing an inclusive learning environment for all children. These sessions are designed to help children overcome barriers to their learning and enable all children to achieve by providing an opportunity for social and emotional learning in a safe and nurturing environment.
This opportunity is an integral part of the education that we offer at our School to help promote and develop children’s wellbeing. Taking part in this well-being group is as vital to a child’s learning as any other subject taught at school. This group is intended to support children with a range of different needs; such as - helping a child to want to come to school, easing the transition from home to school, finding ways to overcome anxiety and be more relaxed, building healthy/confident relationships with adults and children, developing confident speaking and listening skills, learning good social and emotional skills and building emotional resilience and self-confidence.
Class teachers or parents can request for their child to be considered as possible candidates for our Well-Being Group - Seedlings. Children normally come once a week for around 8 weeks. All sessions are based in Hazel class, but could at times make use of outdoors. This enables us to be flexible depending on the weather conditions and also to provide a wider scope of learning opportunities. Certain skills are better adapted to being inside, such as playing board games or just being able to manage being inside a confined space and spending time working collaboratively with others. Whereas, time spent in the forest school space allows for greater freedom, develops resilience and encourages children to take risks in their learning. Routines remain the same whether inside or outside.
