Friends of Wheatfields Infants' and Nursery School
Once your child joins Wheatfields Infants’ and Nursery School, you automatically become a member of the Friends of WINS , a charitable organization that arranges events, enabling parents to socialise and get to know each other, whilst raising money for the school. Friends of WINS is run by parent volunteers and always needs help. If you can spare a little bit of time to not only support the events, but also help in organising them!! Bigger events such as the Frost Fair or the Summer Jamboree are organised alongside smaller events such as cake and uniform sales or a children’s disco. We also host several social evening events for parents.
FRIENDS OF WHEATFIELDS INFANTS AND NURSERY SCHOOL
Thank you to everyone who came to our meeting on Wednesday this week. We are really grateful for all the support and it was great to see new and old faces! Class Reps are all set up now so we will be relaying key messages via Class WhatsApp groups. If you are not yet in the group for your class feel free to email us and we’ll put you in touch with your Class Rep who can add you to your group.
We have set up two teams to plan the two bigger events for this term, Fireworks and the Festive Fair. If you’re also keen to get involved we’d love to hear from you and you can join one of these teams or help with other events we’ve got planned.
We already have some dates for your diary so here’s a peak at what’s coming up this term!
Friday 22nd September - Cake and Uniform Sale - hosted by Year 2
Each Cake Sale is hosted by a different year group. That means that we’re not swamped with too much cake and we can coordinate volunteers more easily. But the sale is open to everyone! So please come along, doors open at 3pm. This year we’ve got cash and card options available.
Friday 29th September - Bags2School
Collection Bags have gone out via children’s book bags. Please fill your bags with clothing, shoes, handbags, belts and accessories. Bring the bags to school in the afternoon of Thursday 28th or morning of Friday 29th (before 9am). The bags get collected and weighed and we are then paid based on the weight we provide. So more bags means more money! If you fill your bag feel free to use other plastic bags to bring more items in.
Sunday 5th November - Fireworks
This year we are launching our own firework display. It will be a great event for our school and our local community. Tickets for Infants and Juniors will go on sale soon for an early bird price. Then it will open up for the public to buy tickets too. There will be food, drink and a great display. The display will start at 5.15pm with doors opening earlier so you can enjoy the afternoon and get ready to ooh and aah. Please see our email for further details on volunteers and sponsorship. We need over 30 people to help on the day, please put your name forward if you are available to help.
Saturday 3rd December - Festive Fair
We are pleased to confirm that the Festive Fair will return. There will be lots of activities for the children, a mini-market of external stalls, food, drink and if we’re all very good then Father Christmas might pop by too!! More details to follow but please save the date!
Other Festive Plans:
In addition to the Festive Fair we will also be running some other fundraisers for Christmas (dates to be confirmed) including:
● Christmas cards and gifts designed by your child - available to pre-order in time for Christmas
● Wreath Making Evening for the adults - join us for a fun evening where you can make your own fresh wreath and have a glass of something with friends
● Christmas Tree Delivery - Order a fresh Christmas tree to be delivered to your door. Good quality, variety of sizes. Order details will be sent out nearer the time.
● Luxury Christmas Hampers - Each class will build their own Luxury hamper. Raffle tickets are sold and the draw will take place with someone from your class winning the hamper.
Other events are likely to spring up during this term so watch this space for more details! If you have any suggestions for an event we’d love to hear from you.
Following the AGM we are pleased to confirm that Jess and I will continue as Co-Chairs and Kelly will continue as Secretary. We would like to welcome Katherine Carlson as our new Treasurer and say a big thank you to Sharon Riahi as our out-going treasurer.
